I have a 9 week old puppy who's sire is Bastin vom Kokeltal. This puppy like all puppies is bite crazy. I don't want to correct cause I don't want to stop his drives. I do give him something else rather than me to chew on. That don't last too long. Those puppy teeth are smarts. Do you think if I do correct him will sop his drive to bite later? As a puppy his training for sits, platz and here is great.Walking in heel he doing good too. I use bait to work with him. I don't have him on a leash yet. He loves his tugs.
Help me
Ray
Sounds like your doing OK.
In ther biting, I like to let the dog bite. I try to play rough with them when there young, untill they get pissed off and start to get serious then I back off and let them think they won and scared me. If your dog is a house or family dog and you want to stop them from biting the family, you may do so but not to the extent that the dog becomes fearful. If you want to correct at this age then do so but only in a NAGING way to were he decides on his own to stop the unwanted behavior in order for a unwanted stimulas to stop. NOT something that hurts or scares him.
I hope this makes sense to you! So very much in training is dependant on your ability to "read" the dog and know how far you can go.

At this point I wouldn't do anything other than enviromental stuff - exposing him to everything and anything.
As for the biting... my philosophy is... if I get bitten.. then I didn't move away fast enough <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
