Just a quick question on exercising my pup. He is now just over 4 months old - and im concerned about exercising him, or more to the point over exercising him.
Presently he gets a couple of walks a day - about 1/2 mile each maybe a little more, i generally keep him on a lead unless were at a beach or big field where i let him off. Also he gets play time a couple of times a day with me and my older dog whos just under 2 years old. Inbetween these times and when were not training i rest him in his crate.
With the oldest i left it about 6-8 months before i started taking him on phisical walks, is this to early. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Basically when can i run him no holds barred?
Tim,
Vets suggest that a dogs growth plates be closed before you actually starting running with them. That unfortunately varies between 12 to 18 months old in a GSD...big variation there, so you'll need to just observe when he basically ceases growth ( sorry to be so vague )
The amount of exercise that you pup is getting sounds perfect for it's stage of life right now. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
