Unfortunatly i found my self in position where i have to give up one of my 2 dogs. Theres nothing wrong with the dog from a pet point of view.
The dog is 8 months old
My question is this -
What kind of effect will this have on the dog as he has become very attatched to my wife and I and our older GSD. Will he get over it. Also will it have a negative effect on the older dog?
The dog i have to rehome is a west german show line, and hes somewhat "soft" and "sensitive" and needs attention.
This is just to give a bit of an idea about the dog. I dont need any jibes about show dogs - im fully aware of there floors, every single one of them! My wife cares alot for the dog and wants to know how this will effect him. I wouldnt let him go to anything but what i thought was best for him under our circumstances - any experience in this would be greatly appreciated.
Tim,
Most of us have gone through something just like this, and I feel for you, it's never easy. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
To make you feel a bit better though, dogs are hard-wired as pack animals to fit into a new pack fairly easily. Most canines are fully intigrated into their new home/pack within an eight week period.
Think about all the people on this board that have imported dogs that were 2-3 yrs old. It's all a matter of adjusting to the new owners, and as Will stated, it's fairly easy. My own JRT Pete has often gone hunting with my hunting partner and didn't skip a beat with me gone. Dogs live in the moment.
