Just turned a stray over to animal control. Little (about 45 pounds in good condition - she was fat *g*) lab or lab mix. Absolute doll, ball-crazy, well-behaved, clean as a whistle, nails trimmed, etc., wearing an expensive leather collar - AND NO TAGS!!! ARGHHHH!!
So - I had no choice but to call animal control and have her taken to the shelter. I did call the local rescue group I got my dog from, and they'll contact the shelter and claim this one if her owners don't show up.
It's obvious that this dog is well-loved, an indoor dog, well-socialized - I'm hoping she's microchipped. But - a lot of unnecessary problems could have been avoided if she'd been wearing a tag! While my Ceili doesn't like other females, I could have kept them separate long enough for an owner to come claim her, if I knew who to call. *sigh*
In the grand scheme of life I know this isn't a huge issue - she'll get a home regardless - but still.
Heck - my KIDS even have IDs on them (inside their shoes *g*)
If she doesn't, the local rescue organization will make sure she finds another good one. I adopted my current dog from them, and it was like adopting a child - surprise home visits and everything. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
