I'm starting beginning sewing with my 9-year-old (we homeschool). When asked what she wanted to do, she asked for - a training vest!
Obviously, she only works basic obedience with our dog (and she's starting to teach some service dog commands, like turning on the light, for her 4H project). She doesn't need all the bells and whistles that a schutzhund trainer would need.
I figured a sturdy canvas for the vest itself - how many pockets would you guys recommend, and where should we put them? I thought maybe two near the bottom, two on the chest (that would cover the kong-on-a-string, treats, a little water bottle for Brianna, etc.)Maybe adding a ring or two, or a snap, for a lead? Should we velcro down the front, button, zip, tie, or not close it at all??
I always just stuffed things in my pockets, so I've never used a training vest before - any advice, or even picture links, would be great.
I've got such a cool kid. Don't know what I'd do if I had a kid who wasn't into dogs!
