did my first chilled AI breeding in March, and am disappointed to say it didn't take.
had progesterone testing on the bitch to ensure correct timing, had vet in Wisc overnight the sample in proper packaging. my vet put a little under the 'scope prior to insemination: sperm were swimming nicely.
this was a maiden bitch (2.5 yrs old), & i don't suspect any fertility problem. next heat we'll do a natural breeding. the stud is proven many times.
i'd welcome advice from anyone about things to do differently in future chilled AI breedings. the concept is great - gives much better access to good dogs anywhere.
I would NEVER do what you did with a maiden bitch. You found out why. If you are going to do chilled or frozen semen you do it on a proven female. You can't say that a bitch had no fertility problems until she has had a litter. If I were to go through this process I would also test the thyroid before she came into season.
i hear you, ed. a number of constraining circumstances caused me to try the AI instead of natural the first time. i haven't ruled out fertility problems, only said i don't suspect them.
