Do you believe your dog has a sense of humour? I never used to think so but there were instances when things happened that I (in my human way) think that my dog actually knows and appreciates a joke. For instance, upon arriving here in Canada, my dog for the first time saw dogs that were way larger than him. One time while walking, I pointed at a large Mastiff puppy and asked him, "Wanna go get that dog?" "Get that dog" was a command I use whenever I want him to 'go after a dog'...being in our place in the Philippines there were plenty of stray dogs roaming the place and with this command I can get Riley to run, bark, and chase the dog away, usually within the safety of our property. Anyway I asked him that with the Mastiff and he stared at me incredulously, as if asking me, "What?!" And then I sneezed, and he sneezed, and we began sneezing for the next few seconds.
This has happened several times on different occasions. Sometimes I run around like a fool to amuse Riley and he sneezes and I sneeze and we do that stupid thing we do again that make us look ridiculous in front of everyone else. Many times I ask him to do something impossible (like "Over" on something he can't) and he starts laughing again. When he first saw my BIG cats he sneezed as well and looked at me, never showing the desire to chase them as he did with the stray mangy felines back home. It was as if he was saying, "Holy cow--that's a CAT?!"
I don't know...it's just my assumption. But always after these sneezing sessions my dog and I romp around like we were kids again never for once caring that one of us is an adult human and the other a senile old dog...
