I have owned a few dogs and none of them have been "barkers" This isn't anything that I have tried to train then into, it is just what they have done alone. My wife and I are seriously considering another dog for in the house. We are thinking of a boxer, but thinking back on all the boxers that I have encountered they are not a vocal dog that I recall. How do you teach a dog to bark when there is someone/something outside your house? Car pulling into the drive, people outside the house etc. I firmly believe that if there was a BG (bad guy) outside and he heard a dog inside the house he would leave and find an easier house to hit. 99% of them anyway.

However, they become quite loud once they are playing (tug, wrestling). i can't say that i have actually tried to teach my boxer to bark on command, although i probably will since it is also the easiest way to teach them not to bark, i can't imagine it being very difficult to do once you get wrestling with them. once she is all riled up i can't get her to stop barking.
