Hello and Help!!!!!!!! Still in the glow of a three week old marriage I seem to have told my new wife that it was ok to bring home a 2yr old rescue golden. I have a nine month old GSD I'm training in SchH. I remember older threads on things like this but I can't seem to get the search function to get me there. If anyone can point me to the right thread(s) I would appreciate it. I'll also take any advice on how to handle breaking the new dog into the house.
I wrote an article on HOW TO INTRODUCE A NEW DOG INTO A HOME WITH EXISTING DOGS - its in my list of training articles. It goes beyond "Introduce the dog in a neutral area" - which is not bad advice but it often is not enough
Thanks Jen, I'll take a look at those sites. I have been socializing my dog every day. So far he has played well with others but bringing another dog into the house brings up a whole new set of issues that I want to be prepared for. Thanks Ed, great article. I found alot of answers there. I have already picked up a second crate and a new food dish.

I used the article above mentioned by Ed and had absolutely no problems with introducing Alf to Xena. The hardest part was the waiting while kenneling a dog in and a dog out for two weeks. They did superb and I highly recommend reading "How to break up a dog fight" It really prepared me just in case. I never had to break them up, but it gave me the confidence to know what to do instead of "Spray 'em with a water hose" or "Kick them till they stop" which just makes you shake your head. Besides having great dogs doesn't mean you'll never be encountered with your two dogs at the park and a grumpy stray Chow crosses your path, then what do you do? Thankfully Ed's articles tell you. Having a well trained dog is such a blessing.
