Don't forget to fade the treat so he won't depend on it. Eventually, you gotta practice with the treat out of sight and use a hand or ball near your face to get his attention. Still reward but from a hand behind your back or with another toy.

I understand what you are saying but if i switch to a ball or a toy i wont have any reaction from him. This dog is totally focused on food. I think i know the reason. See you need to know his history. He is a rescue, he had been thrown out of a car onto a busy highway, he had been beaten and starved. He looked like one of those dogs you see on that show on animal planet. He was skin and bones. There was just nothing there when it came to bodyfat. When i first brought him home he had no idea what to do with a toy or even a bone. I doubt that he ever saw either of them before i adopted him. He has come along very nicely but his training has been a challenge at times to say the least. But despite his history he is very loving not aggressive at all. By the way, i apologize if my grammar is bad but i was born and raised in germany and still have a little problem with grammar <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />
If food works for now then I would use it to teach the behavior and as a future reward. Either way when you fade the lure, all that matters is that he maintains motivation for the final reward, which you could still use food for.
How does he do if you use your hand pointed at your face with the treat behind your back? If that is too much for him right now, try holding a treat in each hand. One treated hand you hold at your face and the other your keep at your side or behind you back to reward him with. Try to get him to watch your face eventually without your hand being there. Of course, you are saying the word "eyes" when you lure to start associating the behavior with the word.
Do you ever feel like someone is watching you? lol!
