Hello Everyone.
..I have the 8wk to 8 month video..which has been helpful, but I have a couple of issues I need help with!
I have an 8 1/2 week old pup. I have had her for 5 days. I have been crate training..problem is even though we have been ignoring her cries and not taking her out of the crate she is getting worse... hollaring{spelling} frantically, chewing at the door and now she is lunging herself at the door! For the short time we've had her she's been great...a problem with mouthiness..which brings up another issue of her coming after my hand after correcting her for mouthiness..anyway she is socializing well, she is cautious of new experiences ..but if there is something she seems weary of she will go check it out. This is all new to me so I wanted to give some information that might give you a clue about her tempermant.
There is nothing unusual at all about what you are describing from an 8 week old puppy. It will go away as long as you don't give in. Crate training takes a couple weeks before the dog is totally accepting of it to the point that you can open the door and expect the pup to go in on its own with no complaints.
Hi, I'm new at this too but I can share my experience with you. My puppy screamed her head off too when I first put her in the crate. One thing that I found extremely helpful was throwing a bone into the crate each time you want your puppy to go in there. This helps to associate going in crate as a positive experience for the puppy. Make sure the bone is raw, not cooked, and take off as much meat as you can, otherwise your dog will not be hungry when dinner time rolls around. As far as puppy biting goes, I just do what the video says and it has worked for me so far (show her it's more fun to play with the toys). Since each puppy is different, you might need to experience different toys with her. For me, I've spent $40 dollars on toys and none of them really works for my puppy. Her favorite toy is a knotted towel. I just let her have that everytime she starts to playbite with me. Hope this helps!
