Laura, it sounds like you're conceding my point. But I'm not sure what the provision you cite says about losing that status, except to the extent, if any, that placing a dog in a home with intact animals expressly contravenes the purpose of the organization. I find it hard to believe that any rational being would say adopting out a dog to a training home where its drives will be capitalized upon is contrary to the purpose of rescue (unless rescue now connotes only hippy-dippy dog activities).
FTR, the alleviation of animal suffering (and public education regarding same) are also valid bases for 501(c)(3) status, whether the dog is adopted out with or sans Skittles.

My posts reflect my own opinions, and not those of the Marine Corps or the United States.
I know this is an old post but I think it needs a follow up.
I got back in touch with http://www.shepherdrescue.org/index.html
and apparently my rejection was an oversight and mishandled by an overzealous staffer. VGRS does not have a problem placing GSDs in service or sport as long they feel its a good fit and the dog is going to a permanent home.
The puppy I was interesterd in given to another home and at present I can't have any more. I have three now which is about all I can handle. after I was turned down I purchased a puppy from a club member.
