Hi, im planning on putting up an outside kennel/run. My question is, are there other materials that one could use for flooring without using cement? And what are the pros and cons? I would like to have the kennel raised above the floor if possible, I saw a pic on the internet of a raised kennel and the flooring looked like rubber of some sort. All help on this matter would be VERY much appreciated
I'm planning to use cattle mats in mine, I believe you can go to most farm supply places and get them. we use them where I work. we don't have cattle, they just treat us like them

Thanks Dennis And what are you going to stick your cattle mats to? a wooden base or so? or just on the lawn like it is? I never thought about cattle mats, but they are pretty sturdy and a lot less fuss than cement!
You're a life saver Thanks!
I use cedar shavings and I find it wonderful. It helps keep the fleas away, and makes clean up easy! It is very insulating, and soft on the joint and pads, not to mention your dog smells good!!!! I change the chips out in mine about every 3months. I use a hard rake to loosen any hardened or packed cedar chips, then shovel it into trashbags, then pour in more.

Thanks Chris
How thick is your layer of cedar shavings? and how is it with dog mess? (like the thought of the dog smelling good )
For a 10X15 kennel I use 2bags of red cedar shavings at 113 liters perbag (thats what the bags I buy read. The bag doesn't say lbs or Kg's. As far as the clean up. It works almost like cat litter. My dog recently had a case of the runs, and it was great stuff to have, because it was easy to pick up, I actually picked up the runs with a pooper scooper! without leaving any residue behind. Hope this helps
I made a "kennel deck" 12X12 (less cutting) and put a 10x10 Magnum kennel on it. I bought the divider so I have 6 runs (three decks) it works out great for the outdoor dogs. I put a roof on them to block the sun and a house so they can chill out when they want to. Clean up is easy I put mini septic tanks on the back to I just jose them off into the septic and wipe the water left over water out and I am good to go. I have had them up for about a year now with no problems. If they get real nasty I presure wash them out and they are as good as new.
