I hope this is in the right spot. Just a quick question regarding registration papers. Our puppy was born in Germany, was brought to the US and we bought her at 5 1/2 months of age. She's now 7 months and we still have no paper work on the puppy. Is this normal for import dogs and when should I start to worry about the lack of paper work.
Thanks for any answers.

Hi Beverly, I'm not quite sure of the sequence of events, however it sounds like you are not the original importers? For clarification, did you bring the puppy from Germany at 5 1/2 months, or did you purchase her in the US?
Either way, it can take several months for papers to be processed. It depends on if and who she was originally registered to. If she was a late sale, it's possible the breeders registered her in their name. If that's the case they need to complete a transfer of ownership to you. Depending on the kennel club that can take anywhere from two months on up! I had a Giant Schnauzer litter that took the Canadian Kennel Club 8 months to get right!!! It's extremely frustrating and makes us breeders look bad!
If however you purchased the pup in the US from someone else who imported her, that can add more headaches... was the pup registered to the original importer? Did they have the paper work from Germany? Have they sent to transfer of ownership papers in?
Sorry to make more questions than answers, however the registration process can be quite complicated!
I would contact the person you purchased the pup from, and gently inquire about the process. If you get evasive answers make notes and try to get names of the registering bodies, it will give you some places to contact should the seller/breeder try to back out on the papers.
Hopefully, everything is in the process and it will just be a matter of time.
Thanks for the info Tammy. We purchased her from an american kennel that had her transfered from Germany. She didn't have the paper work as of yet and told me the breeder in german has my name and such and was putting the dog in our name. She also told me the breeder, while he speaks english, he cannot read english and to correspond with him she has to have her emails translated. Last time I spoke with her she said she would check on the paper work via email with the breeder. But I was just concerned with the process taking so long. I've never purchased a dog from a breeder not located in the US and wasn't sure if she was just being lazy or it really does take a long time.
