I disagree, I don't think using these methods will affect the dog's thresholds for working in protection. It may have some positive effects on how well the dog deals with the stress of defense work both mentally and physically, but the superdog method alone isn't likely to affect the dog's defensive thresholds IMO.
Greg, I'll make this as simple as possible. I like a dog who will offer some defensive behaviors on his own without too much pressure. I also like a dog who is a little sharp, or who is quick to react to stimuli with an aggressive response.
If I have to live with a dog that hackles some in different situations, or barks with a lot of tooth, or looks at every stranger as a potential bite, or who I have to spend some exta time with environmental socialization. . . then so be it.
I'll take a serious dog with those flaws over a dog that lacks natural suspician and a serious edge any day.
I am not so sure that ENS with this type of dog has much effect.....some things are just in the genes. I can see how it might help with physical stressors but, I am not so sure about social or enviromental stressors.
The great thing about the type of dog that VC described is that they don't require alot of training to keep thugs and thieves at bay. However, they are alot of responsibilty and can be a royal pain in the butt . For some Freudian reason, I tend to like this type of dog also. Not sure what that says about us VC!
It probably means that you both have antisocial personalities..LOL <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />. But hey!Im right there with you.I tend to like dogs that make everyone else nervous <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
Yeah, Greg nailed it. . .it says that we're jerks. LOL
There seems to be good evidence that ENS will help the dog to deal with stress both mentally and physically (no matter what type of stress), but as far as significantly affecting the dog's working temperament I would question.

Good point. I see what you mean. So in otherwords, it wouldn't determine if the dog was soft or hard, but just help the dog take the stress of the work- wherever his threshhold is. Thanks for the clarification.
