Ray, if you buy the medium prong w/ extra links, you do not have to exert as much pressure to give a correction. The links are closer together...
I have a 90 lb dog, and the medium prong collar has served us well. I love the quick-release feature. I think if the collar is fitted correctly, you won't have any issues with ineffective corrections.
...And what about that quick release feature is it worth it or does it take away from the intended "pronging" purpose?
Yes .. the action on the quick release i.e. snap buckle collar is not as effective as a live ring action on a chain equipped prong. I know Sprenger makes a prong with a scissors snap on the chain that in theory would make putting and taking off the prong easier but will still have the quick action of the regular live ring for corrections.
To me the medium prong with the snap buckle is a great second collar after a dog has learnt what a prong can actually mean. The presence of the prong on the dog will put the dog into a more obedient state of mind once they know the game.
I like to put the prong on my dog and mix it up with my other collars i.e. e-collar, fur-saver etc and now I won't prong the dog unless she has her fur-saver on.
Remember a dog can get collar wise to any collar. As I see it if you are fair with the dog and use any collar the proper way (sparingly) it is not the collar that is training the dog but your guidance as a handler, that is key to any tool that you may use in your training regimen.

I think the e-collar is the best tool if you know how to use it. I have used both and have not gone back to the prong after purchasing the Dogtra 1900. It is worth the money.
