I am providing this post to help new people to the web board understand where they can go on my web site to learn more about basic dog obedience.
Our website is over 4,500 pages and has a list of over 300 training articles and it is constantly growing. The article page can be found at http://www.leerburg.com/articles.htm Our web board has over 70,000 posts in its archives and can be a great source of information.
I have produced an excellent DVD titled Basic Dog Obedience ( http://www.leerburg.com/302.htm ) . This 4 hour DVD is packed with detailed information. Some topics included in the DVD are:
Rules of Dog Learning,
Training Equipment,
Marker Training,
Sit Command,
Down Command,
Come Command,
Housetraining,
Adding a 2nd Dog to Your Home,
Games and Safe Toys,
Kids and Babies and Your Dog,
Jumping Up, Barking, Chewing, and Separation Anxiety.
I have written the following articles to help people navigate and find the information on Basic Dog Obedience. These articles and their Question and Answer categories will help you train your dog and produce a happy, healthy, safer companion.
I've been using a prong collar with our 4 month old gsd and agree that it's power steering for dogs! However, will she eventually accept that this is how she's suppossed to act without the prong on her? When I have the cotton line/flat collar on her she could care less about corrections with it even to the point of choking herself pulling against me...when I switch to the prong she immediately alters her behavior. Smart dog...confused handler
I started with a flat with my last dog and quickly "graduated" into a prong. It took us a good year of training with that before he was remotely well behaved on a flat. Even still, I opted for the prong.
Dear Ed: I have just purchased the Basic Dog Obedience DVD and I just love it. I got it Friday and we are going to begin to implement the training techniques right away. I highly recommend this DVD and I plan on encouraging others to get it as well. Thank you for helping all of us dog owners, we greatly appreciate it! I was looking and looking over the internet and found nothing as helpful as your web pages. They have helped me greatly as I waited for my DVD. I plan on ordering more DVD's in the future.
THanks again
Sharon Jean
May God bless you
