First off, I know you posted in the Homeopathic/holistic section, but please don't get mad at me for what I am about to say. Did you take your dog to a neurologist? I ask because the only definitive test for disc issues is a myelogram. An xray will not show whether or not the spinal cord is involved. If your dog has injured discs & there is consequent swelling, they might very well be pressing on the spinal cord. If this is the case, surgery may be required, & at the very least a course of steroids may be prescribed as they are the only thing that will reduce the swelling. Remember there is no room for swelling. This can cause progressive permanent damage if not treated correctly. I for sure would not go to a chiropractor without a definitive diagnosis.
hehe, ya I didnt notice the date until after I replied also
In regards to your post on a damaged disk, I feel surgery has its place but it should be a last resort. Most disk issues are caused by laxity in the spine which in turn allows for uneven pressure on the disk which can cause a rupture or bulged disk.
Surgery can not strengthen and shorten liniments/tendons but prolotherapy can and doing so can bring the spine back into alignment and allow the disk to heal on its own. In most cases where invasive surgery is done a biopsy of the tissue will show its in a proliferative state or in other words the body is trying to repair it. However severe laxity of a joint means that normal motion or activity is causing damage faster than it can be repaired by the body. A common solution is to go in and remove cartiledge or fuse bones but this still doesnt address the problem and it isnt a fix.
I would recommend Chinese herbal medicine and acupuncture. I practice this medicine on animals and people. I hold a Masters of Science of Traditional Oriental Medicine. For conditions where there is no permanent change in the structure of the body these modalities can be of great help. If you have any questions for me feel free to send me a personal message.
