I have an 8 yr old male. I'm amazed at his energy still LOL
Is there anything to do to calm them? He's not trained well and that is totally my fault. He was bought by my ex husband and after the dog was in OB training my ex left so I had to deal with two children, a puppy, and a home....
Couldn't/wouldn't give him up. I'm glad to see from what I've read I have done some things correct he's crated (my house would be a wreck if not), has a leash on him even in the house, and is NEVER unchained he's a big time runner!! He listens to many commands except the come command (gee a rather important one), not allowed on the furniture (even if tries), eats after we do.
He does get plenty of exercise. We are going to be moving hopefully within a month and I'll be driving him for a few days in my SUV what can I give him to make him calm?
Ed covers this in one of his obedience videos. You have to get him use to riding in a crate. Try short trips at first and increase the time. You also have to prevent him from bolting out of the crate. I stop about every two hours and let Maggie and Max out to "P". I'm not sure it's necessary for them but it is for me <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />
Give him a kong with dry dog food stuffed inside. Some people put peanut butter inside. Either will keep the dog busy. Traveling in the crate is a given.
The vet said something about giving him doggie downers or benadryl to help calm his nerves. My GSP seems to be fine with new things as long as I'm with him.
Crated in my car is a MUST or he'd be jumping all over the place, my poor daughter would have a lap mate. Pepper thinks he's a lap dog or it would be pay backs from when she was little and would lay on him drinking her bottle.
