OK too late to change my post and I read down further that you apologied.....................but that first post just shot right through me.
Understood. I am the nicest guy you would ever meet if you ever met me, but without writing essays on a board, it's hard to explain a situation I am happy when my dog barks at someone that could potentially come on my property, but I don't mean to torment people that have a true fear of dogs, I can't help my dogs reaction and I can't help other peoples reaction to my dog. I do my best to control him, I put him in a down stay, but short of shoving a tennis ball down his throat, he's not gonna stop barking.
I live in a really nice neighborhood, nice houses, people typically keep to themselves but they are generally nice and understanding when you speak to them - but we have a big problem with rebelious teenagers in my community. Personally, I've had my $1000 glass door shot out by a BB gun, my race car's windshield shot by a BB gun, my cell phone and radar detector stolen out of my Camaro when I forgot to lock it one night, the community childrens playground/swingset/slide got burnt down a few months ago, jewelry missing from someones house when everyone else went to the thief's parents house for a party, someones mercedes was stolen out of their garage by the next door neighbor's 15 year old and wrecked into a tree 2 blocks down... theres more I won't mention here - but miraculously, ever since people realized I had a GSD barking at the window, nothing bad has happened. I've spoken to off duty law enforcement that patrol my neighborhood, there's usually an incident every week or 2 that requires some kid to be hauled off, breaking probation or worse... and they love my dog
I think it all depends on the county you live in. In Tallahassee I think that there has to be a specific incident involving the dog and a person, you are then given a warning and if it occurs again they could possibly take the dog. In the event that the dog bites I think the consequences are more severe. I am in south Florida now and have no idea what the rules are. I do know that you may not leave a dog tied up outside for extended periods of time with out proper shelter and water. I walk my two year old golden retriever off leash all the time with out problems, but always have the leash ready in the event of other people or othe dogs.
Good Luck with the teen problem. Sounds like you are down here in S. FL

I'm in Central FL, Orlando to be exact. My friends boss lives in S. Florida, in a nice neighborhood - brand new Tahoe had the wheels stolen out from under it on his driveway one night. He should get a GSD too

I think that if you go online and check your countys' website you should be able to find the answer to your question, or at least get the number for the county office where you can get a response. I am in Palm Beach County and got a GSD because I love the breed and have always wanted one. It also helped me convince my wife to get one when the county opened a Middle school down the street and a neighbor saw some kids throwing rocks at the houses. If one of them breaks a window my two year old golden would welcome them in, my GSD when he is grown and finished with his training will let them know not to come in. Sorry to hear about your troubles with the teens, it only gets worse when school is out.
