I wish to start an El Salvador "chapter" for practical dog use in a competition format. There are a few people interested in joining...even from neighboring countries like Guatemala and Honduras. It would be nifty to invite decoys and judges over here, and get the ball rolling.
Could you weigh in on the relative pro's and con's of the two modalities in the subject line? Are there others?
Much apreciated...
Andres,
I would recommend going to http://www.americanstreetring.org and emailing one or all of the reps on that page. One thing is everyone wants it to come to their town, but now many want to take steps to bring it. The best thing to do is to ask about setting up a workshop and getting some decoys certified, then all you have to do is get you a judge, until you guys can get a qualified judge in your area, But one has to remember that the decoys and judges, all have familys and jobs. ASR has been expanding, and there are some great things in store for ASR and I sure would like to see it over there, but I'm not a Board member, your best bet would be to contact them, the reality is you probably would have to be the one to fly to ASR's turf and get the qualifications to bring back, ASR is an awesome reality sport. I think you'd really like it.
Hehe..... I spent a summer in Guatemala doing village health care and trained troops in El Salvador ( the most beautiful country in Central America, in my biased opinion ) during my Military career.
I'm the treasurer for ASR, and I for one would *love* to return to Central America and introduce ASR there.
Unfortunately, most of the ASR board members have day jobs and likely wouldn't be able to do that type of travel. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
Andres, if you speak with our leaders in ASR and work something out for you to come here and train, you'd be an honored guest in my home for your stay.
And thanks for having dedicated time to helping our troops here during our conflict. It was a hard won peace, that would not have been obtained were it not for people like you. Frankly, if more people were aware of what US Military intervention/assistance does for populations , more people would shut up, stop critisizing, and get with world reality. I trained BIRI Atlacatl officers in Practical Pistol for a while. Did you ever hear about the Atlacatl?
We are now enjoying fabulous stability thanks to US help, so the country you thought was so beautiful is now completely accessible, modernized and very, very fun.
I'm gonna take you up on that wonderful offer as soon as I can. What are the pros and cons of ASR vs PPD that you can think of?
Are there any significant differences in organisation? Any bylaw constraints to opening up abroad? Anything else (legal/administrative) that needs to be considered?
Thanks again...we'll be in touch over here to set things up...
