Having a well-trained GSD would be overkill, I think.
I've seen GSD's at the airport.... kept behind blinds doing drug searches <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> But yeah having food drive to sniff out food makes sense.
as soon as his sniffer catches something he will be off like a flash and 2 or 3 miles away before he evan relizes he left you.
I'll bet - my dog ignores everything when he smells something in the grass that he likes, he'll even pull on a prong collar and resist maximum continuous stim on an e-collar just to continue sniffing at god knows what. It drives me nuts sometimes.
had a basset hound (close reletive of the beagle) and she was actually very eager to please, very rare in the breed but as soon as she got a whiff of something man thats all she wrote.
