Back to dogs.... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
Quote:
We've fallen into the bad habit in this country of letting organizations fight our battles by proxy, and for better or worse, dog owners don't have a group like the NRA taking up the issue.
Actually, we are supposed to have such a group in AKC, who promotes itself as "protecting" the dog: "It is the nation's leading not-for-profit organization devoted to the study, breeding, exhibiting, and advancement of purebred dogs."
Unfortunately, the one thing that AKC could do that would go a long way toward eliminating bad dogs, is to eliminate bad breedings (ie, BYB's who haven't a clue...). But that is the one action that they would lobby AGAINST! Requiring some kind of restrictions on breeding, whether through required temperament testing before a litter may be registered (ala SV rules), or restricting the number of registrations from any one person, or requiring some kind of breeding license before registration is allowed...or making Average Joe pass a test before registering his dog...or...or...
But AKC will never do this because their very livlihood depends on puppy registrations. Ever look at their Annual Report? ('04 Registration fees: 36.7 mil; Payroll & related benefits: 29.8 mil
Gotta keep those fees rolling in to pay the employees and pensioners... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
The AKC is not the organization that I'd want to be speaking for dogs in America.
It's made of mainly of snobby elitist that just barely tolerate things like obedience, hunting, and other work related dog sports.
And the AKC will sell out any breed if it furthers their political agenda.
Too Many Laws, Too many Lawyers, Too Many Politicians, Too Many Uneducated People, Not Enough Responiblity, Way too easy to get off these days, The punshiment doesnt fit the crimes and vise versa, I too am a gun and dog lover but my boys are locked and boxed and leashed and trained. We dont need more laws or more organizations, just more people to stand up for the right way of doing things and stricter punshiment for when we get ourselves in trouble.
Mr Ferguson will no longer be posting to the Leerburg Board. I seriously doubt that his real name was David Ferguson. People like this sometimes slip through our vetting process but it only takes a day or so (he registered 4 days ago) to show their real colors.
There are plenty of forums on the internet where people like this (no matter what name they go by) can go and insult other board members. I wont tollerate them on this board.
As far as Mr. Ferguson's comment on Will's service to our country - I am not sure how many silver stars, bronze stars and purple hearts one has to get to qualify as a true American hero but Will has a number of each of these medals.
