I realized a while ago, but ignored the fact, that my dog would rather eat his food off the ground than out of his bowl, or any bowl for that matter. He'll eat out of his bowl once he's really hungry, but if he's not quite reached that point yet, he'll completely ignore his food. Like tonight, I put 1/2lb of ground beef in his bowl while I was making my dinner, he ignored it, I grab a chunk with my hand n he eats it right up, so I put the beef on a paper towel on the ground n it's gone before I can blink, but when it was in his bowl he ignored it. He has no bad experiences with his bowl, like I said, he'll eat out of it if he's hungry enough (I guess thats what causes him to eat out of it?), but if food's on the floor he's much more eager to eat it. Anybody else had this experience?
My experience is sort of like that. Our previous female used to dump some of her kibble out, eat the spilled stuff, and save the rest. That got old real fast. We're not sure why she did that.
I've no idea why they do that, Maggie takes a mouth full into the living room and shares it with Max. I feed them on the deck now and put there food water on a rubber mat made of old conveyor belt material.
