Somedays you feel like quitting? I went to our seminar and my dog lost his mind. obedience was out the window, if the decoy put his arm over him(leg dog)he went after that. Man what a crappy time that was for me!!! However the dog had a great time. I feel like quitting all the time. I am not good with humans, so club dynamics/politics/BS or whatever I am not good with. Check out your dog when you guys work. Does he have fun? If so then go as far as his enjoyment goes. And stop with the M80 thing. If I was throwing them in your house you might get a little nervy too.
Of course I forgot the other part. When my Cattle Dog was with me she would go after the fireworks and bite them. I would rather have the cautious dog! I don't know how many times she grabbed lit stringers of firecrackers and shook them as they went off in her mouth. And no I did not try to take them away.(I need my fingers)
Well, my dog was fine with the M80's, he didn't care, he was fine with most fireworks, he just stood there and watched from a distance when the fountains were set off or the lil fire crackers that come in the $20 packs at walmart, I was proud of him for it - but then people started setting off the super loud fireworks that shoot up in the air n go BOOM with lotsa sparks, after that, he started getting spooked by the quieter fireworks too. That was his "breaking point" so to speak. I think the showers of sparks over our heads may have been more the cause of it than the noise itself, but whatever did it, he wasn't pleased.
My dog seems to love the work up to this point. I'm still trying to find a local helper I can work with privately, I'm just not a club person, and after having my legs and arms covered in literally 100+ noseeum bites per limb after my last visit to the Sch club, I'm very reluctant to go back! But finding a helper to work with one-on-one isn't easy, I don't even know where to start looking and nobody's been able to point me in the right direction. It's not like helpers have a website saying "Schutzhund Helper $50 per session" lol. I emailed the breeder 2 days ago asking about Sch helpers but he hasn't replied yet, I'm hoping maybe he can send me in the right direction.
