I know a dog that is in great health. For the past month it has been scrathcing its neck area. It does not have fleas, and only scrathces one area on its neck. It does not chew or scratch any other place. The diet is fine and it has never shown this scrathing before. The dog is 2. It is getting to the point where it is taking the fur down and is leaving a patch. Any thoughts to what the problem could be?
It could be as simple as a scratch-itch syndrome. The dog itches, then scratches, which causes more itching, more scratching, etc. A good product for this problem is St. Jon Petrelief Medicated Anti-Itch Spray. It is economical and you can spray it on as often as necessary. It stops the itching and heals the irritated area quickly. You can do a Google search and find some places that carry it. Look for the 32 oz. economy size refill.
Then disregard previous post. Are you giving supplements? I know not all dogs can handle flaxseed or alfalfa which is sometimes added to veggie mix if you are feeding that.
