I have a english springer spaniel who has been introduced to the water as a puppy by me and the dog hated the water, she would only get her paws wet, while our lab does not hesitate and goes right in. I am curious if there is away to get my dog over this. I have heard some say throw them in, I heard from others that will only tramatize them more. Should I throw her favorite toy in the shallow end and encourage her to go get it. I know it seems like a simple question, but I would like this dog to enjoy the water with the rest of the family.
If your dog is ball crazy find a place where the beach slides into the water gradually and throw the ball deeper and deeper into the water.
I had one who hated water and we took another dog out and played with HIS toy with that dog and built frustration when we tied the other dog and threw HIS toy he was going to get it regardless of the obastacle - now he loves water.
