I had heard that. I've always owned Hoovers, last one was a Hoover upright windtunnel bagless that supposedly was rated very high and I was constantly changing hepa filters, unclogging it, etc. Gave it to my oldest son when he moved out for the excuse to buy a new one, lol. Dyson def. beats it regardless of CR :P
I haven't seen the CU report on vacuums and don't know their 'rating' criteria.
However, I have to jump on the Dyson bandwagon.
I use the Dyson on the few remaining carpeted surfaces in my place. Once, as a test, I ran a Hoover over the bedroom carpet. It was one of the better Hoovers. The amount of dirt and dog hair the Dyson subsequently pulled up was stunning.
I've never had any luck with consumer reports. I'm doing my own testing this afternoon. It involves a crated german shepherd, a down pillow, and a client lunch. The pillow by the way doesn't have to be anywhere near the crate when the experiment begins (or more accurately, the crate doesn't have to be anywhere near the pillow). Did you guys know that goose down will expand infinitely to fill whatever space it's given?
So far, the people I've seen who say good things about the Dyson are people replacing their older vac. Of course it's going to work better than a worn out vacuum. It's like the old platinum spark plug claims about better gas mileage etc. Better mileage with new plugs v.s. old plugs. Duh. Better mileage with platinum v.s. standard plugs? That's the real test.
I'd like to see the consumer report test on the Dyson v.s. other NEW vacuums.
There are three constants in life: Death, taxes and the love of a dog.
Better mileage with platinum v.s. standard plugs? That's the real test.
You wouldn't believe how many people try to argue that point with me, I just tell em "they run like crap in my 800hp race car, that's my experience with em... but maybe in your BMW they'll work great".
Sometimes you just gotta try it out and see if it works for you, even tho there's no real science between carpets, I am sure there is some variation with how well dog hair adheres to various carpets <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />
And that, my friends, is why we live in this great country where major retailers let us bring products back that we're not satisfied with hehehe.
