You get into the truck bed and then call him to you with the come command, not jump. He should obey the command to come, which jumping in the truck would just be an objective of his goal to come to you. Hold a treat in your had as you give the come cammand could take his mind of his pervious experience but he will likely never forget. When we train our dogs they do they work for us because we've shown them time and time again, you won't get hurt following my lead (because you should be his leader). I'm not saying you have but,..If the dog follows his master and does everything he says...but tends to get hurt in some way, he's not going to trust you when you say....go head...jump in the truck, you won't get hurt,..i think.
They have to trust you. Only way that happens is by your actions. Just like if you say COME,..as soon as he gets there you kick him, he will not come anymore. If he does, it will be slow and skiddish.
I have a chevy truck, I taught my dog to leap in and out of the truck threw the window. He doesn't ride in the bed, thats not safe. Going in the window was a little harder to train on command verus going out of the window.

Wow I'd be paranoid about my paint getting scratched LOL. And yeah jumping into the bed is purely something I want him to be able to do, he'd never ride back there, I hate seeing dogs riding in the back of pick up's.
I broke down and bought a Dodge Ram 1500 SLT Hemi this weekend - there's just too many things I need to do that are inconvenient to do in a transam, and dog transportation is one of them lol. I'll give everyones advice a try, he was ignoring hotdogs yesterday when I tried it, but it was realy hot outside so I'm sure that affected him some.
OK so I'm standing in the truck bed trying to get my dog all excited about coming to me, armed with a hotdog and lotsa enthusiasm.
Then, I get this whacky idea.... if you read my post about my dog's reaction to me with a towel over my head.... then you'll know where this came from... I decided to put my tshirt over my head n act all excited... I guarantee you my neighbors now think I'm even more nuts than they already did. But it worked to some extent, he got very excited wagging his tail and making whining sounds because he couldn't get to me, then he started jumping onto the tailgate with his front paws, and THINKING about jumping on it, but his "jumping squat" turned into a "sit", but I think if I spend enough time getting him excited and wanting to come pull the tshirt off my head (which seems to be a much stronger desire than hotdogs or toys) I think I can get him to jump again.

I really REALLY hope you make a training video. Sign me up for a copy.
Connie - smart suggestion, but here would be the *real* money maker for a video:
TRAINERS GONE WILD!!!
YES! We've taken our beautiful underage models and had them pull their shirts over their heads during dog training!
Guys, you won't believe what you'll see!
Operators are standing by!
Sorry, I tend to change the channel during those dumb commercials and I don't know how they really go..... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
