If posturing occurs while you are walking your dog, such that it is likely aggressive behavior is about to occur, have you missed your opportunity to provide an effective correction?
I think if you catch it before it is "about to occur" you're ok. My dog likes to run up to other dogs (or try to), as soon as I see his head raise up, his chest out and his lips tighten, I tell him HEEL and walk the other way and correct for disobedience under distraction (unless he heels ofcourse).
What type of aggressive behavior (towards what/who?) is about to occur in the scenario you are describing?
My dog isn't dog aggressive, but he postures when he wants to go sniff another dog, and barks if he's restrained unless I issue some type of command to him - simply restraining him makes him bark.

I agree 200%............as soon as that focus starts to change, for my dog, as soon as I know he's about to pay attention to the other dog (or anything but me, when he's at heel).......that's when I make the sound and give a little leash tug. We walk with a flat collar, so it's just a "tcht" sound and a quick physical tug that reminds him of where his attention is supposed to be.

Dominance behavior, dog aggression. She is a Pit, and I have been working with her every day now for almost 2 weeks, to re-train her. My primary objective is to be able to maintain absolute control on a leash, and in the event of an unintended off leash event, i want to be able to get her to immediately come to me.
I switched to a nylon collar and found the prong works better, i am making progress, but I am afraid if I don't work with her everyday untill ????, she won't remember. What signs do you look for to see that the dog is retaining the desired behavior?
