I've been looking over the different dog doors available, and I now know what pet door NOT to take a chance on. Ed, thank you for sharing the pictures of just what can happen with the guillatine style door. From the ones I've studied like this, you can set the time for the flap to stay up for up to 5 seconds. I don't think this would be sufficient time for my GSD's tail to clear the door. Diva has an extremely long tail to me for a German Shepherd. My question for anyone out there with a dog door, is what experience have you had with one and which one would you recommend, or not?

I too would like to see these pictures, if you would be kind anuff to show them to me.
Anyhow, I do not have a dog door of mine own, but my dad has one on his gardge door. His dogs stay in his yard most of the time.(about 8 fenced acers)He has put a dog door up, so when it is to hot/cold, or the weather is just bad the dog can go in there to get out of the weather. It is a swing type with two little maganets on the swinging door and two on the frame it self. The outer side of the frame is groved so you can put a solid stop type door in, to keep any thing from coming in or out.
I do not know how much he paid, or the name of it. I will be sure and ask him tommorow. But, I know he got it at Home Depot.
Seems to work pretty well, it took his dogs a few hours to really find out what it was, but I think they took a liking to it. His biggest dog is 70 pounds and smallest is 30 pounds, they all fit no problem. I also know it was a midd-size and you can get bigger if needed.
