I'm not a Mod there Pete but I don't think this is the forum for urban legends and percieved personal injustices. But I would be most interested in your opinion on helper work when it comes up.
What's next, is he going to carry an empty service weapon because he might get sued if he shoots someone? This is just stupidity.
Close. At the beginning of each shift, the officers will be given one round to carry in his/her front pocket (Barny Fife style) and must turn it in at the end of each shift to prove that they didn't shoot anyone/anything!
Chris, actually, you are correct; race does play a part in it. That is the atmosphere that is faced in certain departments, and, as regrettable as it is, it does go on.
I do feel for the cops that are afraid to pull their weapon, even if that weapon is a K-9. These guys (the ones I know) are under tremendous scrutiny besides being in a stressful job. It is grossly unfair.
It is part of our culture, right now. Someday, justice may be color blind....one hopes.
My original post really had to do with training a sleeve-happy dog only, out of fear of lawsuits. I did digress into some other areas....perhaps I should have posted them elsewhere. "urband legends" thread! thanks.

Justice is color blind and I believe that our officers do the very best they can to make objective decisions in the situations that they called into (on the whole). However, it's our culture that perceives and/or creates these "race card" problems. And I'll just leave it alone at that.
Ok, if ya'll want to talk about racial politics and police work - do it elsewhere.
Unless you've seen an incident happen first hand, it's probably BS as an other poster was hinting at with the "Urban Myth" statement.
(the race card would be played in a law suit if a minority were to be bitten)
You know Peter the more I read your original post it disgusts me. You make the above statement, "the race card WOULD be played, as if all ethnic people would sue and automatically play the race card regardless if they were the cause of being bitten by a police K9. Your statement clearly suggests that white people wouldn't, only minorities. How about just stating that across America today Americans are on a sueing spree (because this is not just a problem in the minority community and to suggest so as you have done is absolutely disgusting. All societies have their problems, and it isn't just the minorities. I have a buddy who is a phenix city, AL cop, ask him where most of his trouble comes from, so you see, all races of people have their bad apples, It just depends on where you choose to look for the bad apples, but you obviously choose to zero in on the minorities, and on a board which the time I have been here hasn't seen this crap your spewing out. I also, don't see what the hell race cards have to do with the fact that this department is worried about law suits, who cares by whom, the fact is the law suits has this department by your claims handcuffed. This is an American problem today, law suits are not found just in "da hood". You need to deal with whatever issues your dealing with first before you come here and start typing your crap!
