Or you could hire me and nobody would get within 1000 yards. One and a quarter miles if you pay more, .50 BMG ammo ain't cheap. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
There goes the prestige of my pre ban AK. Oh, right..back to dogs <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />
A serious PPD is more of a pain in the butt than a PSD. I hate to use the analogy, but....its like putting a gun in the hand of a child. Dangerous combination. 99% of people who own these dogs just dont put the maintenance time into them. Its alot of work and people get lazy real easy. My.02
i read the website site that Will posted and was sticker shocked...was a well written website..
but i guess my question would be...how do they test these dogs in doing what they claim to do????
Do they actually get three guys to attack and let them bite them without any protection ???
when i was reading it... alot of red flags went up.. 35 to 70 k for a dog..
Very true, Howard.
A joke I always make around my kennel is that a good ppd vendor would talk at least 25% of potential buyers out of buying a dog, period.
And that figure is probably on the low side......
Seems that a good vendor should be able to educate the customer on what a reasonable expectation of the abilities of a dog should be. Even within those limited expectations, I think a protection dog of some sort can still be valuable to many. Or maybe my definition of a PPD is too broad - a dog that will alert to danger and will display defensive behavior is all 99% of customers probably need. Heck, all I wanted was a dog that would make the bad guys have second thoughts, and getting that just took picking the right breed and breeder. I'd think that in only special circumstances would anyone want/need anything different.
I have had some clients that were really freaky about security - a few of which had security experts that reviewed the house plans, etc. But these were special cases where one guy was a top exec. and another had a business that I just didn't ask about. These guys wanted the nasty unsocialized beasts roaming their grounds, but both had distinct dog/kid areas of the yards.
