Here is something to look at. Check out 18 and see what the decoy does to make the dog look better. A good newbie exercise!
Seeing as how he pauses befor he spins, and did not spin as he cought the dog(although the pause was only for a second), Im guessing he did not do it to make the dog look any better. I think he may have been testing the dogs grip.
Im clueless though, I really dont know, you may be right.
My typing is bad so if you look at the bite after the initial pathetic entry (almost stops) That would be the bite after the first B&H She bites the decoy, and he goes along with it. The dogs are supposed to wait until the decoy engages. I liked her enthusiasim in the obedience. The pathetic entry in the courage test is hard to say bad or good 'cause it could of been bad training.
The quickness and enthusiasm the dog shows in this video - is that something that is trained into a dog or a natural thing? My dog is nowhere near that quick or excited in his work, he gets very excited but no running circles around me, no instantaneous down, no jumping up from his down. I notice my dog getting quicker, he is 15 months old, should I expect to continue seeing speed improvements or is it a drive thing?
Probably some of both. If he is your first dog you are training for work, then your timing hasn't developed enough. I have been doing this a long time, and I admit to days where the brain is 2 seconds slower than my eyes. Timing helps with the speed. On the other hand genetically dogs are + or - on willingness. That wanting to do what you ask to get the reward makes a huge difference when you add strong drive.
