I have an eleven week old doberman which I am trying to tape his ears. I have tried popsicle sticks, tampons, plumbers foam, crack insulators with no success. I've tried half stays and full stays and the results are the same. One ear continues to lean inwards (medially). The stumbling block I think is the cross-band. I find it so hard to put it on right. I've gone over many websites which all make it sound so easy and yet I can't seem to get it right.
Any suggestions?
Thank you

What I did when I had doberman was take popsicle sticks and put tape around then till the size was right for the ear. Then i would make a little box to go inside of the ears on
to of his head. That way they would be up right. Sometime you have to put one of those elizabethan collars on so they
can not scratch there ears.It take time to get them right.
Good luck with the doberman!!

I have taped over a hundred Dobe puppies, so I have a little experience. You are right about the cross band (bridge). You could try strengthening the bridge with another piece of popsicle stick in tape or something that doesn't bend to easily. Be careful not to make the ears to heavy with tape and bridges etc. Less is better and cartilage will become stronger faster. Also, your tape tension at the base of the ear that is turning in, is probably a little more than that of the opposite ear. Playing around with the tension at the base will help correct this.
I personally prefer popsicle sticks and then I switch to tongue depressors. Hope this helps - I always tell people that come to me for ears "When you think the ears are perfect and finished, tape once more for insurance" nothing is worse than a beautiful Dobe, with funky ears!
I hope this helps...
Well I tried everything and I finally found a very light brace which works very well. The pup doesn't seem to be bothered by it at all and seems very happy.
For anyone out there who is having similar problems they should check out http://www.hoytt.com/ears/.
Thanks to everyone for their help. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />
