I have used all types of wax, more for winter outdoors and think they're pretty much the same. I have heard some people even use the wax for hair. Would he let you apply it or is he still too nervous to mess with the feet? Do you have a rug with the sticky backing or that grip stuff you could place on the floor and then a rug so he can sit? Mine have all adjusted to the floors and stairs with time, 10-14 days. It sounds like you are making progress from the first night though?
Thanks aimee and steve. He's not freaked out by it but I think it either bothers him or just surprises him and he gets up to regain balance. When he's tethered to me outside the crate he lays on an old bath mat that I pulled out for him until his faux lambskin dog bed comes in the mail. He walks fine on the wooden floor though so that lessens my worries. Guess I just have to be patient and see if he gets used to it. If not I'll pick up some wax.
And yes he is def making progress. He's still most comfortable just chilling in his crate, but I guess there are worse scenarios. He's eating and pottying regularly (a la yesterday/today) now so that's a good sign. Looking forward to bonding with him and building focus/drive etc etc etc, but that's just anxiety on my part. Will have to be patient.
