Hello, Malik is almost 6 months old, and I am wondering if we are doing too much with him.
7 am - Husband does 20mn of drive building/play/walk
7:45 to 9:30 or 10 - Malik naps (crated as I exercise)
10 am to 12 pm - I do a few mn of drive building/play/training and then take him on a 1 hour to 1hr 1/2 walk
12 to 3 pm - Naps until around 3pm
3 pm to 4pm - more training/play/walk, and that can vary from 10 mn to 45mn depending on his energy level (training is usually brief
4 to 5 pm - Naps, then my husband does training/play
5 pm - Malik's dinner
5:30 til next day - naps until 8pm where he'll play some then often he'll sleep the rest of the evening and night.
I know this is pretty specific, and things do vary some but that is mainly the daily schedule is on. Is that too much walking every day, specially at 10? I just wonder if some of you could actually list their schedule in comparison, and age is big factor I'm sure.
Thanks ahead for that.
I can say that it makes me feel like I do too little with my 6 month old GSD.
6am-6:45 Free play (hangs out on leash outside with toys, etc)
7am-8:30 Car ride to work
8:45-11:30 crated with toy/chew bone, etc
11:30-12:00 walk/train session
12-4 crated
4-6 Free play outside of crate
6-7:30 car ride home
8:30-9 Ball on a string, retreive, train session
9:30-10 Free play and relaxing time
10 - Bedtime
We're all different with more or less time to spare for the dogs. I'm just wondering if my pup sleeps so much because I do too much or it's normal. Anyways, thanks for the post!
My 10 month old is up with me and my other 3 dogs at 5:30 a.m. They go out and potty then eat. They hang around inside and play together til about 6:30. They go outside to free play until 7:30. From 7:30 until 12:30 or 1:00 she is crated and I assume sleeps most of the time. At around 1:00 I take them out and play ball for half hour or so. They free play another hour in the yard. She is then in the house with me until after dinner and we take a 45 min. walk and train. Unless I am not home she spends very little time in the crate bacause she is really good outside of the crate. Not sure if your pup is crated or not when you aren't training. If it is, maybe that is why it is sleeping alot. They are still growing a fair amount at 6 months so I really wouldn't worry about it. Remember, it is stressful being a dog- when's my next bone, when is it playtime, etc.... NOT!!
It's quite interesting reading those 2 posts and seeing what we each do. Malik is only crated when I'm not around, about 1hr to 2 hrs a day top, he doesn't mind. But he still sleeps alot, and thanks for reminding me also, like my husband, that they still grow a lot at that age, and he is still teething.
I'm now doing shorter walks, only 45 mn+ and he seems fine about that, might like it even better.
