My dog was recently in training with Will Rambeau and Ken Hungerford and I must say was doing quite well with obedience and bitework. After biting the left side of her mouth she basically did not want to work anymore. Didn't even want to play tug. To make a long story short....we stopped training and I brought her home. Noticed that she just wasn't here usual peppy self and was shaking her head on ocassion. Took her to the vet..... turns out she had an unusual buldge of the eustachian tube in her right ear. My wonderful vet took the time to research this(said he had never seen this before) and found that this is usually associated with TMJ(temporal mandibular joint)in dogs. So it stands to reason having a sore jaw joint would be a good reason to not want to bite.
Thank goodness Will and Ken have enough experience and expertise to know when to stop pushing. Otherwise, my dog could have been ruined!
This was a good lesson to learn. When a dog is trying and suddenly quites....maybe there is a good reason!!!
