I do some things w/ Doberman rescue here in Omaha, as I have a young male w/ Von Wildebrandts disease that I am trying to place. He just needs to be the only dog in the home as any clash w/ another dog that breaks his skin is going to bleed ALOT.
Anyway, I was out this morning and there was a small pup female that was from S. Dakota, an owner surrender due to a new breed specific law at a local level that named Doberman Pinschers. I was fairly annoyed by that, as a midwesterner I simply expect a little bit more common sense, and level headedness from other midwesterners than I expect from folks elsewhere. I truly don't mean that in any condescending fashion, I guess what I mean is that we are usually somewhat insulated from the hysteria and wrongheaded foolishness that seems to sweep through the overpopulated areas along both coasts. Much to the detriment of this young pup, and many like her, this has in fact made it's way here. This is nothing but racism applied to dog breeds. What is NOT amazing for some reason is that those PETA goobs are not fussing about this, nor have I heard them tossing fits about it anywhere else, wow what a shock. Too busy planning terrorist acts against businesses probably.
If everyone is thinking alike, then someone isn't thinking.
I think the reason PETA does not show its ugly dirty stinking head is SD is that the people out there take hunting, fishing and trapping seriously. When I drive out to SD (2 to 4 times a year) I pass a bill board at mile marker 343 on Interstate 90 warning animal activists that they should not show their shitty head in South Dakota - I always pull over and bow three times to the sign.
I would have to see more information on this breed ban before I took it to seriously.
