Puppies should receive a set of three shots. The first is usually given at around 9 weeks, then the next is given 3 weeks later (at 12 weeks), and the final is given 4 weeks after the second one (at 16 weeks). Then, at one year of age (or approximately 8 months after the last of the set of three), a final booster should be given and most dogs do not need any more boosters after that. The first rabies shot is usually given at around the 5 or 6 month old mark, though sometimes it is done earlier. Here, the rabies vaccine is administered every three years by law. In other places it's required every year.
Some people choose to administer the 'booster shot' every 3 or 5 years, and some people do titer testing every 3 or 5 years to see if a booster is really necessary. My dog's immune system is somewhat suppressed, so I do boosters every year and a half. When I get my GSD, he will most likely not receive boosters.
You should discuss your options with your vet. The breeder is 100% WRONG in saying that your puppy should not be vaccinated until 6 months of age!!!!!!
