I'm trying to teach left and right to Max and Erika but I'm not sure how to pronounce "link" and "recht". any of you german speakers out there can help me out it would be appreciated. Max has got left and right but I want to be consistant with the language.
Dennis, that's about as close as you will get. I'll try to expand a little bit. The "i" is pronounced more like "ee", the "ch" is sort of a cross between "ch" & "ck" with a kind of flegmy type sound. These two examples below should get you a bit closer to proper pronunciation.
Links = leenks (with majority of focus on the "leen" part)
Rechte = reckta (with little focus on the "ta" part, almost as if it were an afterthought)
The word 'rechte' by itself is not a complete description.
If you add 'Seite' and say 'rechte Seite' it would mean 'right hand' and this would be ok.
The correct way would be:
left hand - links
right hand - rechts
'links' you pronounce it like you would do in English - links. Like chain links. Just the same pronounciation.
"rechts" is a little bit more difficult - it sounds like 'reckts'. You have to pronounce the 't' and the 's' and you are almost perfect.
