Well, I showed *a lot* in AKC obedience and I've got over two dozen UD's to my name. And the majority of them came from two breeds - Shelties and Border Collies.
< those of you that know me in real life.....quit laughing at the thought of me with a Sheltie! >
If I could only own a smaller dog but wanted to compete in Obedience and SchH, I'd definately go for the ACD. I love them and I'm sure I'll be owning one some day.
I was thinking about geting an australian cattle dog for obedience training.
I've yet to meet an ACD I didn't like. This is a lot of dog in a little package, with the working drive of a herding dog and the toughness of a...I dunno...dingo, I guess. They are a hardy breed too.
I have a feeling the popularity of these dogs is going to grow wildly in the future, and I just hope it doesn't screw them up, as has happened to so many other breeds.

We are working hard to keep the breed true to its form and temperament as well as keeping the public educated that this is definately not the breed for the majority of the public. I have been the VP of the national breed club for the last two years and the focus is on working ability which is nice to see. This year marked 25 years since the inclusion of the ACD in the Misc. class of the AKC and I am proud to see there is still cohesiveness between the working and show people.
My older male Poe is a cool dog. You can see some of his working pics here:
I had an ACD. I can definately say they are not for everyone. She was either the best dog on the planet, or whats the point of feeding you. Either way she was MY dog and only mine. I miss her.

Thanks for posting those photo's of your ACD doing SchH work, those were *great*!!
I totally agree- that is one mucho cool dog, Ingrid! All that and they can work cattle too.
And Will, I for one would have LOVED to see you in the obedience ring with a Sheltie. My family has owned plenty over the years, before I graduated (or lost my mind, depends on your way of thinking) to border collies. I am not really a 'small dog' person but I've got a soft spot for the little terrors. They are big dogs in a small dog body- sweet, full of attitude and a lot of fun- you just have to stock up on earplugs first...
