I also use the rechargeable battery type which I purchased at Wallyworld for around 20.00 - 2 years ago. Very easy to use and I only use the sandpaper disks. I initially tried my dremel used for word working and it was WAYYYY to fast and powerful - the battery operated works so much better for the dogs.
Yeah, I use the lower speed and it works so well for me.
Initially, my male was super afraid to let me clip his nails and that resulted in his nails getting way too long.
I had a the pet dremel, but it needed tons of battery replacement all the time and lost too much speed, so I no longer use that one.
This Dremel in the link works good for me, but only at the lowest
speed,I think it is 10,000 rpm's.
The best part is my male will let me grind his nails so much better than clipping so it is a win-win situation!
I use a Dremel, too, but have noticed Lulu's nails are growing FAST! I read on a groomer's board about a nail cutting tool shaped like scissors, made for using on cats or birds, then following with the Dremel to smooth the nails. I purchased one at Petsomething today and as long as it stays sharp for awhile, it might be worth it. It worked really well to take off a chunk of nail without worrying about overheating. I've also noticed the Dremel obviously spins in one direction (too bad) and I have to be sure I'm approaching the paw from the correct "spin" direction. Not so easy when the Bichon is screaming (for the heck of it, I've never cut the quick) and contorting all over the place.
