Yeah there's nothing like a nice big slice of Humble Pie for breakfast. Tastes like crap, but you never want to eat it again...and you learn, eventually.
Being so new to this site and reading what real trainers are doing has already taught me a lot.
For example, I expect too much too fast. And I have still to learn certain terms I see used around the board. Like "weak nerves". I don't know if my Saint falls under that category, but lately he's been pretty cautious and jumpy on our evening walks, and hiding behind me... So I'm trying to boost his confidence without accidentally or unknowingly making him think he's going to get praise for hiding I'm used to dogs that I have to hold back to a degree. Never had one try to hide behind me. I also have to remember that in spite of his 60 pounds he is still a pup...

That isn't entirely true...I have worked with pups who initially will show fear signs (hacles up, low growl, backing up) but then they have wanted to investigate the noise...then when they see it's nothing to worry about and are calmed again, I praise them and tell them how brave they are.
My Saint just stays hidden and does this little barely audible (woof) almost under his breath while remaining behind me.

He's eager to roll onto one hip all the time. I was debating with myself if it were him just being comfortable, or could be early signs of hip problems
