I have kennel deck in all my (30)kennels. It holds up very well, but does slow down cleaning quite a bit. You have to clean not only the tops of the kennel deck, but also lift it, clean the undeside and then the floor under it. It does wear well and is VERY tough. It looks nice and overall I've been happy with it.
Martha, I don't know how set you are on buying the kennel deck product but I have had wonderful luck with heavy duty rubber cow and horse mats. They come in a 4'x 6' section and are 3/4" thick. This is one real heavy duty mat and provides a great barrier against cold, hot, wet, concrete, etc. I have cut pieces for my large kennel and my indoor kennel. They are virtually indestructable and my dog loves it. I think Ed even mentions these on his web site. Just thought you might want another option. The only bad thing about the rubber mats are that they are extremely heavy. They require some muscle to move them around if and when you need to. Very easy to clean. Cutting them to size is easy as long as you have a good razor knife. I know you weren'tasking about cow/horse mats but for what it's worth I think there worth considering.
Glenn, with the cow/horse mats does the urine sit on the surface or does it soak in; or do you put the mats at a slope so that the urine runs off?
Josh, Thanks for the info about cleaning the underside of the kennel deck. If I went with it I was planning to put it on the ground without any additional surface under it. Do you see any problems with this? Sounds like you don't have any problems with the dogs picking up a urine smell from it?
Martha, I'm not sure why you are so concerned about the urine thing. No I don't think the rubber mats are urine resistant. I have hosed these mats off with water and it seems that the water left on the mats either soaks in (After a period of time) but not for sure. Dogs as a rule will not mess in their house. If you do get these mats just keep them hosed off. I generally lay towels down on the mats to soak up the excess H2O. Hope this helps. I forgot to tell you that these mats can be bought at a farm supply store. You might want to go and look at them and ask the people selling them if they will suite you're needs.
