I need to get this dog to read whatever book you read Lou.. he is ALWAYS rewarded with a win, and always has been.
I wonder why it is that anytime you address me there's a tone of sarcasm? Too bad that you're unable to be civil.
In any case, giving the dog the toy at the end of the training session is but one way for him to win. If that's the only way that you've come up with for him to win, then your training lacks imagination.
And if you're doing anything but a sport, that is if this or any dog is going to work for real in police work or as PPD (personal protection dog) it will (not can) lead to problems down the road. I can't tell you how many dogs I've seen that will tear off a piece of clothing and then prance around as if he's just "won" instead of re-engaging the bad guy.

With few exceptions every dog does follow the same rules. All animals of all species follow the same principles of learning.
