My 20 monthold GSD is doing fantastic in everything we try. He's super social, very clear headed, yet a complete demon on the Schutzhund field. He's seems more than willing to eat the helper for lunch, with or without equiptment (sleeve, apron).
I haven't tested him without the equiptment on anyone other than the TD because I'm not interested in PPD. Could this be just his desire to "play the game" with the TD, or, could it be a real civil side? His attiude towards the TD without the equiptment seems a lot nastier (snarling, lunging, ears back, tail up, no hackles). With the equiptment, it seem to be all prey, at this point in his training.
He really seems to want to take it to the helper when the equiptment is gone.
When the threat is stopped, he's everyones buddy again.
The dog is old enough at 20 months to try the dog off the training field in a new location. Tie him out for 20 to 30 minutes without you present (OK you can peek as long as he does not know) then have someone the dog does not know threaten the dog from a distance. Look for foreword aggresion.
This is best done by someonewho knows what they are doing.
Without the equipment on, a lot of dogs cannot focus on the prey object, and start seeing what the decoy is actually doing. It is easier to move, so the decoy just got a lot quicker. You have trained your dog to bite a sleeve, and done it enough that it is a conditioned response. Now there is no sleeve, the guy is faster, and where do I bite? More movement, more frustration, more pissyness. It is not a bad thing, I was just giving you what I have seen a lot of in the past. Sounds like a nice dog.
