I am actively involved in a K9 club who competes in obedience, agility and personal protection. I have been training and working with two dogs who are not my own. Yipee...We got 1st place in my first agility trial. I am having a lot of fun working with the dogs. The problem is since I am training other dogs that do not belong to me, I do not get to bring them home. :-) Although,I have a 5 month old German Shepherd puppy, she is too young to begin much of the work with so, most of the time she is left at home while I go "play" with the other dogs. I do look forward to her maturing and being old enough to do trial work but until then, I would like to see if there is/are any older dogs who need a "playful" home.
I would prefer a dog who has had exposure to or mastered protection "bite" work, any agility and any obedience. They must get a long with other dogs and are housetraining...they would be an indoor dog.
If you have any comments or questions, please feel free to email me. Thanks! Melissa

Melissa,
You should definatly have your pup out there. If your club tells you she/he is to young right now, I would find another club. Your pup needs to learn as early as possible to work and play comfortably away from home. Even if it is not ready for a helper yet, you get out there and play with him/her on that field. I like to let my pups watch what the other dogs are doing. I can't think of hardly any negatives for bringing your pup out there, but I can think of a few when it comes to leaving your pup at home on training day. Not getting your pup out can make him very defensive as he gets older. Defense is good in the right balance, this has the potential to produce an overly defensive young adult. Start bringing him with you.
I'm sorry...I mis-represented myself. I do take her out there just not everytime. We've started on some tugging and some of the agility equipt. The equipt. that does not require her to jump. I suppose what I meant in my posting is that I am anxious to train and compete with my own dog. She is too young to compete in the trials so I have to use other dogs that do not belong to me. I am working on training her but, I wish that I had my own adult to compete with. I hope that this clarifies it a little. Sorry! :-)
Thank you for your replies. I think that for the time being, it would be best for me focus on my puppy and not be so anxious. Thank you so much. I will let you know in the future if I change my mind.
