Austrian hotel: Dogs are welcome, 11-year-olds aren't
October 17, 2005
LINZ, Austria -- An Austrian hotelier will welcome dogs as guests, but children under 12 can stay someplace else.
Roland Ballner, who runs the Hotel Cortisan on the shores of the picturesque Wolfgangsee, doesn't think the new policy will hurt his business when it takes effect May 1.
Ballner justified his unusual decree, saying young children were running around the hotel and grounds screaming and marking walls and new furniture with felt pens.
But his decision was condemned by regional officials, who said it would give the area a bad reputation, and by Sepp Schellhorn, the head of the Austrian Hotel Association, who called it excessive.
As someone who doesn't have children but has a well behaved GSD I love it. Personally, don't think it will last long because there are just as many irresponsible dog owners as irresponsible parents. I find my friends that have children saying "I wish my children acted as well as Ava." I say stop being your childs's friend and be their parent.
When, I was a child you wouldn't think about showing you butt at a hotel and destroy property. Because parents were just that instead of being friends.
NOTHING worse than screaming, noisy bratty kids when one is either on vacation or eating out
I understand where the hotel is coming from but as the father of two adopted children the owner of two dogs and a twenty year veteran of teaching elementary school I completely disagree with them. I take full responsibilty for the actions of my children and my dogs. It should not be held against me because someone else does nhot control their kids. Just like if you do not control your pitbull you should not ban mine from the city.

This is why Nintendo invented the Gameboy!!
Out to eat with my wife and son (5), he's more interrested in beating my high score than running or screaming!
Bottom line, it's not the children that they shoul keep out, it's the irresponsable parents!!
Just imagine what 6 months old puppy loose and on it's own would do to the furniture or carpet for that matter (when it's bored)!!
As a parent of three young children I can understand why they wouldn't want kids running around. There are enough family places in the world to go to. I've been tempted to kennel the kids and let the dogs in
