I agree with Kristen - what Therapy dog organization is doing the certificatin for you?
And the last year at various USA events and AWDF, the SDA group walked around as a unit (never really saw one or two walking around by themselves) badmouthing schutzhund, the training, etc. and saying that what they did was much better and real. To me, sounded like the wrong way to build up support with the working people - be negative as to what they did at an event they are competing at.
I had heard that Therapy Dogs International would accept dogs with Schutzhund training. Delta Society doesn't. Some places have their own local therapy dog organizations and evaluators that are not affiliated with either of the two national societies. The local groups may or may not take on dogs with protection training.
Of course, this information may not be current or correct.
I get my dogs tested and certified through Therapy Dogs International. In our area, they hold their testings at the Humane Society Pet Education Center (training center). They have never expressed any hesitations knowing that my dogs are trained in schutzhund and I have passed titled and untitles dogs through them.
The way the SDA folks acted at those events reminds me of horse showing and those people. You can go to any show and find the hunt seat riders in one group, the saddleseat riders ion another and the western riders somewhere else. There is even division among the groups themseves. The tennesee walker riders wont look at the saddlebred riders, and vice versa. It's a shmae that most people can't just enjoy their sport and let others alone but, we all picked our sport for our own reasons and to us they are the best and make the most sense. Some people are more mature about differances and others. I agree that walking in a huge bunch is not the best way to gain support and they should have definately been more interested in networking than slamming, but such is the way with people. All I know is Im more than willing to listen to what they have to say and I wont judge or begrudge them their choices and I hope they do the same toward me. If they dont, well then, that's on them, at least they'll think im a nice schutzhund guy! lol
I also had my SchH II Rottie bitch certified through TDI.
It was a lot of fun doing that work, I regret that the Delta Society is so narrow-minded that they won't allow a well trained SchH dog with the correct temperament to work for them. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

TDI here is Therapy Dogs, Inc., and they will NOT accept bite trained dogs. Of course, you could just 'forget' to mention the fact that you also train for Schutzhund, but IF something were to happen, that would come back to haunt you.
Anyway, this is off-topic, so I won't be discussing it further under this thread. I just wondered.

I know that Therapy Dogs International, Inc. and Therapy Dogs, Inc. are different organizations. My female dog was a therapy dog with Therapy Dogs, Inc. for a year until I discovered that we just didn't have the time to devote to it and that it was begginning to become more and more stressful for her as well. The point was that some organizations do not allow bite trained dogs and some do. I was under the impression that most did not, hence the question about which organization the certification had been obtained through.
